Welcome to the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The Department is situated in the beautiful city of Durban, South Africa, with the main centre located in the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital (IALCH).
This is a flagship tertiary and quaternary central hospital equipped with world class equipment and facilities, providing high quality specialized service to the Province of KwaZulu-Natal.
The Nuclear Medicine department in IALCH was first established in 2003 and accredited for training in 2012. There are two smaller departments located in Addington and King Edward VIII Hospitals.
The department aims to provide an outstanding service in line with the vision of the Department of Health, the University of KZN and the worldwide fraternity of Nuclear Medicine.
We also offer teaching in the various fields of Nuclear Medicine with high focus on producing patient-orientated clinicians and allied staff.
As an academic department we endeavour to produce impactful research which will benefit our communities at large.
