The Dept of Nuclear Medicine is a clinical department based at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital, where it performs conventional Nuclear Medicine investigations (in vivo and in vitro), PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and Radionuclide therapy.

The academic department was created in 2012, but the clinical department has been running since 2002.

• Deliver a reliable, superior quality service aligned with international standards to ensure optimal access to Nuclear Medicine to all in our province whilst ensuring minimal radiation exposure to both patients and staff

• Build awareness and disseminate knowledge of the discipline to all referring clinicians through regular interactions, academic forums and multidisciplinary team meetings
• Increase the footprint of the department nationally and internationally through collaborations in research and joint clinical engagements
